Former Martin County growth management director opens new Treasure Coast planning firm

Nicki van Vonno, a respected municipal planner with deep roots in growth management in Martin County and the Treasure Coast, has opened her own planning and management firm, van Vonno Consulting LLC.

Van Vonno worked for Martin County for 35 years, starting out as a planner in the Growth Management Department and serving as the department’s Director for 20 years.  She led a team of highly qualified professionals in representing the county’s best interests in all aspects of growth management.

Her new firm offers planning services to local governments, landowners, private sector clients, and citizen groups in South Florida and the Treasure Coast. Areas of expertise include comprehensive planning and community development, planning studies, land development regulations, impact fees, and housing. She will also use her passion for the arts, culture and literacy to help organizations in search of strategic planning and management consulting.

“I’m a firm believer that both the natural environment and the built environment have to be valued and work in harmony to create a quality place where people want to live,” van Vonno said. “I’m eager to bring my skills and experience to prospective clients who share my values.”

Van Vonno holds a Bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in West Virginia and a Master’s in City Planning from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, has spoken at national training events, and provided expert testimony during administrative hearings on land use decisions.

Currently van Vonno is a member of the Library Board of the Martin County Library System and a volunteer at the Friends of the Library’s Book Depot. She is active with Martin Arts and is a supporter of the Martin Arts Stuart High School Arts Center Project. In addition she is a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as the Chairman of the National Chapter Literacy Promotion Committee and the Halpatiokee Chapter Book Club Committee Chair, and is a member of the Abraham Lincoln Association.
