Growth Management Department Resigns, Hometown News article
STUART – The Martin County Commission honored Nicki van Vonno May 5 for her retirement that week after having spent more than three decades as a county employee and the last 20 years heading up the Growth Management Department.
For two decades, Ms. van Vonno served as the face of the division called upon frequently to interpret the county’s revered Comprehensive Plan, a job that regularly put her in the crosshairs of the municipality’s delicate balancing act between business and slow-growth interests.
County Administrator Taryn Kryzda motioned for Ms. van Vonno to come to the front of John F. and Rita M. Armstrong Wing of the Blake Library, where the County Commission has held its meetings since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
